What is 3D printing?
3D printing is a three-dimensional print, meaning that you change virtual models to physical objects layer by layer. We use the FDM printing method, where 3D printer heats the plastic filament to an almost molten state and extrudes it according to the computerized trajectory to the build platform, which is usually a heated glass plate.
A printable object consists of several thin layers, so the print is built upwards from the bottom taking appearance of a virtual model until the object is finished.
Common uses for 3D printing are for example fast prototypes or spare parts. The selected plastic quality has a significant impact on the finished piece’s properties. For example, environment friendly and low-cost PLA is good for children’s toys, while tough and durable Nylon is better suited for industrial products, such as different sliders or gears.
